Hello Ladies and Gentlemen(are there any?)

I recently had my FS9 crashed with an problem of too few RAM!
Although I use Vista 64 bit and 4 GB of DDR 3 RAM.
I just landed in Kingston, and was rolling to my parking position.I admit,I changed the views 30-40 times,to see the AI traffic, the moon and the stars(yes it was in the night Wink )and so on.With the last change of view, the screen went black and the information about too few memory (OOM)appeared. I could still hear my plane but FS9 was "dead ".
Anyone an idea how to stop this problem ?
The settings in FS9 are all 100%(except the view in the distance and the clouds)

Regards

Scotty

Hello Scott,

FS9 does have known memory leaks but I don’t think that would be the problem in this case.

Q1. What programs were running in the background? eg. Virus, Email, MSN

Q2. How much space do you have left on your HDD's ?

Q3. Is it possible that a scheduled task such as virus checking or defrag was automatically started at the time of your fligh?

Kind Regards,

Gavin Gillett

Hello Gavin !

Thanks for your answers. To your questions:

A1.Only necessary programs,no Anti Virus ,no E-Mail,nor MSN

A2.More than 700 GB.

A3. No scheduled tasks.

I heard about a patch for the FS9.exe,a so called "4GB patch" ( for XP )

have you heard about that?Could it work also with Vista 64 ?

It was my first OOM,so I will keep an eye on it.

Thanks again,

Scotty

Ok, no problems there that I can see.

How recent is the problem?

Were you running FSX recently without a problem?

Have you recently installed any new hardware or software, including patches and updates?

There is a 4GB work around that applies to issues specific to a particular configuration.

I'm interested to know if this is a recurring problem that you have had since installing either a 64bit OS or 4GB's of RAM. Secondly, can you confirm there 4 GB's of RAM have been detected by the motherboard and Windows?

Kind Regards,

Gavin Gillett

Hello Gavin !

It appeared on Sunday for the first time.
I have not been flying with FSX for such a long flight (bad english ?)
I will say I am only flying in FSX for short range flights with one prop machines,so I can´t compare.
Unfortunately I installed quite a lot on the last few days in FS9,to rebuilt as it was on my old system, where I never had such a problem(with 1.5GB RAM)
Yes,the system shows that I have installed 4GB of RAM.
The problem acurred only once till now,but I will do some long range flights in the next days,to see whether it will return or not(hopefully)

Already thanks for the help till now, and the coming one Wink

Scotty

Hello Gavin !

It happened again !
After two hours flying over Europe,FS9 collapsed with: out of memory.
The Task Manager showed me 3.01 GB used RAM. Question
This time I used a PMDG 737-800 and no changes of view, because I wasn´t present.
When I returned to FS9,the screensaver was on,and I still could hear the engines-but no reaction.
In the region I have installed Lago Terra Mesh,UTE,UNE,and different add-on airports. All the things I had before in my old PC.

What is goin´ on?

Hello Gavin,hello to all !

New information.
I remembered myself having read an article about "empty texture files",which should be responsible for OOms.So, I started looking for them in my FS9 and found 23 (twenty-three) !!
Although I had them already in my old FS9(which is still on my old PC ) I deleted them and did a 2 hours flight ( again from Dublin towards the south )
Two and a half hour later somewhere over north africa, the Task Manager
showed me 2.22 GB of used RAM.Everything was still o.k.
I will do some other long distance flights within the next days,to prove whether it became better or not.

Regards,

Scotty

Sounds like your on the right track but its still very strange to have such high memory usage with the PC setup your running.

Kind Regards,

Gavin Gillett

Hello Gavin !

When I start my PC the Task Manager already shows me 1.14GB of used RAM.
Just after starting the system and the auto programes. Is this normal, and do you know processes
(of which are 60 running)which I can Stop?Perhaps they are the reason for the high amount of RAM used.

Take care,

Scotty
