Hi all, new to forum. Hope someone can help. I have been flying fs9 since release and had fsx since it became available however my sytem couldnt run it. I just built a new system and need some help with FSX setup. It looks terrible. My FS9 looks better.
Sytem specs:
Palit P35A mobo with intel Core2 Quad 6600, 3 gigs of Corsair XMS2 ddr2 ram (32 bit OS wont use my 4th gig) and dual sapphire HD2600XT 256meg video cards in crossfire. Running Vista Ultimate. Have FSX SP1 installed.
It just looks nasty, as in water where land should be, different reflective surfaces/types over bodies of water. Water across runways.
Can somone please suggest graphics settings i should be trying?
water accross runways ? sounds like you have FS9 scenery installed to cause that.
firstly your system should kick butt , though a 512MB card is better and wont set you back too much.
what specifically is your question ? if you dont like the reflective surface on the water , turn the water detail down to a 1x low,mid or hi , rather than the 2x.
turn autogen to a low to meduim setting for now until this area is improved with DX10 or a config adjustment.
I have a lesser system and get 35fps with maxed texture and mesh detail.
I only have default scenery from install. Nothing has been added.
I think it must be something to do with the autogen scenery.
Anyway I guess my question was "What settings should I be using for best look, performance" I know its a pretty broad question. Thought there may have been some readers with a tried and tested config on a similar system.
I have dome some playing around and think i have it sorted. Am now in at least the 30+fps world and looking much nicer.
for myself , I turn off Autogen , sometimes put water on max only for screenshots over water , but normally have down to "low1x" when over Sydney for example , I turn Mesh complexity down to like 15% thereabouts as it seems to be a killer , I can however turn the mesh resolution all the way to max , the texture resolution all the way to max - this really makes things look good. I can trun with scenery detail at max (unless at Sydney for some reason , though Melbourne seems to handle this much better)
also it depends largly on what Aircraft you are in , with some I can max out the world detail , on others I need to trim it back a bit. I believ the size of the AC sound file will effect things , so in places I have swapped thezse for smaller files I know work well.
I read somewhere to turn off detailsed virtual cotpit , and as I spend most of the time looking out of the window with the outside views anyway , this goes off , also untick the option for "land detail textures" , except when actually on the ground wanting to take some screen shots. In some parts I can run with 100% AI traffic , though as mostly online VATSIM thesedays , I turn them off anyway , unless I;m online and somewhere quiet and if I feel I want the traffic for a ground screen shot or something....I definately turn off the AI traffic cars, boats and ships , they are CPU killers and do nothing for me anyway.
I get 35fps , but am happy with 20+ fps , this on a 2.8Dual,only 1GB RAM, only a stock ATI512mb card. Im wating to update the card , I read to hold out for another 6 months , but want some more RAM as soon as I can get it.
I often run with VATSIM , FSEcomony , FSAcars (flight logging), an internet window or two and even the email open ! I should've bought that copy of FS9 Adrian has on offer (IS IT STILL ON OFFER ADRIAN ?) , but all in all I think people are a little harsh on FSX , and I am lovin' it , having never seen FS9 anyway.
