Hi All,

My question relates to FS 2004.

Do you set a particular frame rate setting? Or do you let your video card "work it out" (ie set the Frame Rate Slider to "unlimited")?

An IT chap at work suggested I ought set a specific frame rate.

I am using a Toshiba laptop with a Nvidia graphics chip 'n' memory. I should add that the video memory on my laptop is coping well, and I have frame rates set to 60fps.

Is there any advantage to setting "unlimited" in the fps section of the Settings option of FS 2004?

Thanks for your ideas.

Nick

Hi Nick
this question has been debated so many times over the years........
my answer is always: what ever works for your system
most seem to want to set their FPS to 20-25
both my machines run better on "unlimited"
you'll hear so many "so called " experts tell you all sorts of settings are best, but how can all PC's be the same and there's many other settings in FS to be taken into account............
just use whatever works for you, its a try it and see, making sure to change one setting at a time in both FS and your Card, if theres no improvement put it back and try another one
one of my machines has a Nvidia 8800GT and even Nvidia tell you to let the application (FSX) Run Anisotropic, not me, my FSX runs 3FPS better with the card running on at 16X, my other PC has a 7800GTX and either setting makes no difference at all, can you see what i mean..........
you have to try all sorts of settings for your PC and see how they work for you, for years i've ignored all "must have settings" by others
my 2 cents worth

Ray

Hi Nick,

I agree totally with Ray on this one too. I've also seen so many people say this way and the other but it really does come down to fine tuning it for your system. Then there are the differences that I and other find when running full screen or windowed mode. Fine tune for your system in the manner that Ray suggests until you find the sweet spot.
