I had the game installed and then i had a stop working problem, so i uninstalled and defraged the drive and went to install again, but its not installing, i just get this error "1608 unable to create installdriver instance return code -2147221021"... i have tried a few things but on go, ? has anyone else heard of or had this problem, i am lost on this one...... damn lol _________________ If you cant have the best of everything, or do anyone good.

Solution #1
This error has been known to occur for some users when installing or uninstalling FSX. According to InstallShield, "Error 1608 is a very system specific issue and is often caused by limited system privileges, incorrect DCOM settings, or another malfunction on the computer."
In most cases, the instructions in the following InstallShield article resolve this problem. For many of our customers, this error has been resolved by simply following the instructions regarding DCOM Settings (section A).
If after trying all of the suggestions in the InstallSheild article, you are unable to install or uninstall FSX using the automatic installer, you will need to perform a manual installation and/or un installation.
Solution #2
Fully un-install FSX either by common un installation methods or by removing the folder manually.
- REBOOT -
Download, Install and update to the latest version of Registry Mechanic from download.com
- REBOOT -
Confirm you have the latest version of Registry Mechanic.
Create Backup an Restore Point.
Run Registry Mechanic and follow the instructions on cleaning your registry.
- REBOOT -
Run the FSX Setup file as Administrator and/or directly from the disk.
- REBOOT -
Run FSX as Administrator if required and load FS all the way to the Tarmac.
Activate your FSX
Install SP1 or SP2
- REBOOT -
Run FSX as Administrator if required and load FS all the way to the Tarmac.
Shutdown FSX and install updates as required
- REBOOT -
Attempt normal FSX operations and report back to the forum with anything questions you might have.
Could you also provide details on your computer configuration such as CPU type and speed. The best information you could provide is via DXDiag if your unsure about what to send.
Check the Problems Reports and solutions page, you will find this in control panel.
Go to Start - Run - Type "DXDiag" in the box provided - Click "save all information" button on the panel that pops up - Send the file to me via Email: gavin@ausflightsim.net.
There is no information in the DXDiag that could be used to harm your computer

Thanks for your response to my lil'problem, and having been in the bizz of building and configuring computers for a tad over 25 yrs now i had done most of what you suggest, and was thinking it would be ok and work, well i was wrong, and i even ask MS for an answer but still no help, but !!! i did get it sorted, i used restore and just took things back past the first time i put FSX on my puter, and no probs it installed w/no worries at all, so thanks once again for the time taken to supply the reply, and i hope i may be able to help someone sometime here in the forum too .... _________________ If you cant have the best of everything, or do anyone good.
