Hi all,

Is it possible to start a game with the engines shut down and you have to go through the checklist to get everything going. I thought it may have done this by starting at a gate but no luck. I'm assuming this is possible cause of the engine start-up keys etc.

Thanks

Hi Spectre,

I know in FS9 what you would do is create a flight that has you sitting at the gate at your usual departure airport. Then shut everything down and save the flight as your default flight. That way when ever you start up your default flight there you are, cold and dark, ready to run the check list.

Hope that helps.

Adrian is right , and to manually shut down the engine(s) in FSX you hit CTRL + SHIFT +F1. Then to auto-start engines its CTRL + E , or you can manually start up each engine with the ignition switches within the cockpit.

Hey , I'm flying over the West Indies now , where have all their cricket ovals gone ? The developers goofed up there ! There is a world cup on and not one cricket ground in sight ! Not happy microsoft !

There is a more direct way of starting with a "cold dark cockpit". Look in My Documents for a folder (either Flight simulator files or Flight simulator X files) for a file with an FLT extension. This is a text file and can be edited with notepad.
Browse through this file and you will find things like
RightMagneto=True
It's pretty obvious what this is. Setting this false and setting
LeftMagneto=False
Will efffectively mean the engine is switched off. A bit of browsing through this file will find those settings that will get you to a "cold dark start"
When you have finished editing this file save and close it then start flightsim. That's all there is to it. EXCEPT that there may be several FLT files here, you just have to figure out which one FlightSim starts with by default (usually your user name or default.FLT) This file only controls the Free Flight type starts, however, you can look for other flight(FLT) files and make changes accordingly.
A last bit of caution; If you're not sure what a setting does, backup the file to another directory or filename before modifying it.
Have a go, there's lots of neat stuff to experiment with in this file.

Regards
Scott Hendry
