Would appreciate any advice on best option (s) for add-on scenery for flightsim x. Have looked at a few sites and the option of 'downloading' gigabytes of data seems silly / prefer to purchase cd / dvd. Any help on 'best' most realistic option and local source (QLD) much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Satyr,

There really aren't all that many products released for FSX as yet but more and more is coming out every week. It all depends on what scenery you're looking for too. As usual the first regions to be developed are the U.S. and Europe with the rest of the world eventually getting there over time.

All I can suggest is you keep an eye on all the FS sites for new releases, AusFlightSim and The FlightSim Store at the top of the list (shameless plug).

OK maybe a dumb question but I'm no software guru Embarassed , and I've just installed FSX.

I want to put some VIC / YMML scenery in as the STD stuff is not great.

Can I use FS9 scenery files or not?

Appreciate the advice... Wink

in short I think not. (FS9 scenery to use in FSX)

I've been liking most of the stuff I find here: http://www.simviation.com/downloads.html , but as Adrian says , its all overseas stuff at this point.

There is one here which redoes the Autogen files to run a little quicker , though ive not tested it yet. Ok I've been too busy playing with all their Military Jets Cool

Description: "FSX Resized/Reworded Autogen Textures. I have resized and reworded all the files included in this zip file mainly because I was unable to fly using any "Autogen" what so ever. As a result of the work I have done on these files I can now use my Autogen which I have set at 60% and have also gained 6fps on my Test Computer. Ian Thatcher. 7.6MB" its on this page: http://www.simviation.com/fsxscenery1.htm

hope you find something you like there, I really like that site....FSX is going to rock once more addons are developed.

be nice if I could drop that LGB on the ATC Very Happy online flying would be more fun if we could shoot each other down... Rolling Eyes

Heaps of cool addons for FSX there...I actually spent a whole evening adding stuff.

And I trust we all know about FSX Service Pack 1 being released ? Not sure how much improvement it makes to FrameSpeed, but I DEFINATELY has improved the load time of the scenery when beginning a flight.

Happy flying,
Paul.

check out aussim.com , not sure about melbourne but they have a great addons for Cairns , Coffs Harbour and Amberly AFB that look brilliant and work fine for FSX.

Some recent FS9 stuff works fine in FSX , with the usual oddity.

I myself like the Carribean scenery. Actually I just like the Carribean ! hehe good memories perhaps. Matty Hayden 180 something runs world record in St. Kitts comes to mind.... Wink

honestly , one could spend an entire day looking and downloading scnery and other add-ons....then another day defragmenting the **** out of your hard drive... Laughing
