Press Releases: Aerosoft Releases Lisbon 2008
Posted by JayKae on Friday, May 09 @ 17:13:47 EST
Add-On Scenery

Aerosoft has just released Lisbon by Michael Kopatz who recreated the airport up to the smallest detail incl. all buildings and installations, docking systems and all the features you expected from a modern scenery development in FS2004.

Lisbon Airport is the main international gateway to Portugal and a major European hub. It is one of the largest airports in Southern Europe. The airport has two main runways, capable of accommodating large-size aircraft such as the Boeing 747. Before the existence of the actual Lisbon Airport, Lisbon was served by an aerodrome called "Campo Internacional de Aterragem" located in Alverca. At the end of the 50's Cabo Ruivo was closed and all the air operations were transferred to Portela. In 2007, the airport handled 13 392 059 passengers and 82 879 tonnes of cargo and it is the main base-hub of the national Portuguese airline TAP-Air Portugal.

The Airport ground texture is based on a high detailed areal image. All buildings, lighting systems, navigation beacons and of course the layout of taxiways and runways have been recreated to perfection. Static aircraft can be de-activated to make room for the AI traffic. Runway 03/21 in Lisbon has two special Rapid Exit Taxiways, RET"s. These taxiways (HN and HS) allow the aircraft to leave the runway at high speed. For more information please visit the Aerosoft homepage.

Press Releases: VATSIM announces VAT-Spy version 1.0
Posted by JayKae on Sunday, May 04 @ 07:24:12 EST
Other Add-Ons

VATSIM announces VAT-Spy which is a simple application that allows you to view current ATC staffing and traffic levels on VATSIM. It is modeled after ServInfo, a very popular traffic and ATC viewer for multiple online flying networks. ServInfo is a fantastic program that left little room for improvement, but there were one or two areas that I wanted to do differently in VAT-Spy, mainly the map and the CPU usage during data downloads.

VAT-Spy's map looks very similar to ServInfo"s map, but it has a different interface for panning and zooming. You can smoothly pan and zoom the map using the mouse. See the documentation section for details.

As for CPU usage, VAT-Spy differs from ServInfo in that it is a multi-threaded application, which means that it does a lot of its work in the background while the user interface remains responsive. This means that, for example, you can still pan and zoom the map while VAT-Spy is downloading the latest VATSIM data. This also means that VAT-Spy can take advantage of multi-core processors ... one processor core can handle downloading and parsing the data, while the other core can handle drawing the map, etc.

For more information please visit the VAT-Spy homepage.

Press Releases: AlphaSim Releases B-24 Liberator
Posted by JayKae on Friday, May 02 @ 03:41:43 EST
Add-On Aircraft

AlphaSim releases this groundbreaking package which features both the glazed-nose B-24D and the turret-nosed B-24G/J variants and five super-detailed texture sets which depict bare-metal, desert and olive drab schemes, all with carefully-drawn authentic nose art. This model package also debuts the AlphaSim "Visual Load Editor" (VLE), a unique in-game graphical user interface where you can toggle on and off parts of the model such as the crew and bombload (aircraft weight will be updated automatically as bombs are loaded or unloaded). The package is for both FS9 and FSX, the FSX version is of course fully-featured with bump mapping, self-shadowing, bloom effect and v-c self shadowing for SP2/DX10 users. The FSX model beautifully demonstrates 2048-pixel texturing at its best, the sharpness has to be seen to be believed ! An amazing set of sounds by TSS are included with an FSX-specific version with "soundcone" tech. The superlative quality continues with the panel suite, amazing detail abounds with custom-made B-24 gauges and authentically-styled popups for fuel, throttles and electrical systems. The v-c has every switch and knob of the real machine, but will not need a high-spec PC to run it. The majority of the v-c switches are mousable, even the radios can be operated from the radio operator"s station in the rear. The external model features many animations, including opening "shutter" bomb bay doors, crew figures who scan the skies for enemy fighters and a togglable waist gunner (and door), landing lights, retractable ventral ball turret, cowl flaps and sliding cockpit windows. Special effects include custom startup smoke and engine exhaust, even a fluttering flag can be hoisted out of the cockpit window ! The flight dynamics have been meticulously researched and efficiently beta-tested, even the turbosupercharger levers work and provide the exact effect stated in the published specs. A .pdf manual detailing the cockpit and instrument panel comes with the package, as well as a useful Excel spreadsheet which calculates turbocharger and throttle power settings for you. This is the package heavy bomber fans have been waiting for since flightsim was invented, a landmark model for flightsim and a must-have for ultra-realism fliers. A paintkit is also provided so new schemes will surely appear in due course. For more information please visit the AlphaSim homepage.

CERA presents a light and very manoeuvrable agricultural airplane (produced between 1966 and 1983).

In the 60s Cessna decided to expand their line of light aircraft by entering the agricultural aircraft market. The resulting aircraft was a conventional single-seat, piston-powered, strut-braced low-winged agricultural airplane.

The Cessna 188, using a Continental O-470-R 230hp (170kW) power plant, was first flown on 19 February 1965. The aircraft was certified and entered production in February 1966 with 241 aircraft delivered the first year. The initial design of the Cessna 188 was so successful that over its 17-year production the basic airframe remained unchanged and sold an amazing 3967 units of all four variants.

Press Releases: AlphaSim Releases Gee Bee Super Sportster
Posted by JayKae on Sunday, April 20 @ 08:31:32 EST
Add-On Aircraft

AlphaSim The unmistakable Granville Brothers creation is an icon of the pre-war era, both famous for its success and infamous for killing its pilots. The AlphaSim package provides both Super Sportster variants - the R1 and the more powerful R2. Both FS9 and FSX versions are fully featured with AlphaSim RealGauge tech, high-gloss reflective textures, sounds by TSS and accurate flight dynamics. The Gee Bees were only awkward to fly on take-off and landing, in the air they were really outstanding and the two seperate flight models reflect this. The detailed virtual cockpit has full "systems modelling", all the necessary startup/fuel components are modelled in 3D and are of course mousable, including a hand-held radio. As usual, the FSX model is the best way to enjoy this package - the textures are incredible in their 2048-pixel resolution, the smallest text is crisp and legible. Of course self-shadowing and (minimal) bump-mapping are there, and SP2/DX10 users get the added benefit of cockpit self-shadowing too ! For those who have not yet experienced our awesome Rutan 61, the AlphaSim RealGauge technology provides instruments fully modelled in 3D, faces, needles and other components are part of the 3D aircraft model and not simply stuck-on bitmaps. The result is amazingly high FPS and super-smooth operation. The pilot figure is realisitically modelled and animated with stick and rudder pedal movements in the exterior model. A 27-page user manual in .PDF format in included. So - enjoy the thrills of seat-of-the-pants classic racing and also the challenge of taking off and landing the mighty GeeBee with this outstanding addon ! For FSX (SP1, SP2/Accel) and FS2004 only. For more information please visit the AlphaSim homepage.
